Meet Our Board: Mark Slyter
Mark F. Slyter, DSc, FACHE, became the President and CEO of Stormont Vail Health in 2025. He is a native Kansan, returning to his home state after more than a decade in healthcare leadership around the country. Mark joined the Topeka Community Foundation Board of Directors in January of 2026.
What is your “Why” for joining the board?
At Stormont Vail Health, our mission is to improve the health of our community - because this is our town, our friends and neighbors, and our employees. Caring for our community means investing in its strength and well-being.
The Topeka Community Foundation shares that same commitment. Together, we’re working toward communities that are thriving, resilient, and full of opportunity.
What is the role of philanthropy in our community?
Philanthropy strengthens our community in powerful ways. When people come together with shared purpose, we see the impact of collaboration, synergy, and collective generosity. The Topeka Community Foundation is a shining example of this spirit in action - connecting donors to meaningful causes, supporting local initiatives, and investing in the long-term well-being of our community.
Tell us a little more about yourself.
My dad was an industrial arts teacher, and he sparked my love for woodworking and hands-on projects. I’m an amateur handyman and enjoy building furniture and tackling small home projects.
I’ve also always loved doodling and drawing, which led to a passion for art. Inspired by my mom’s computer classes, I picked up graphic design as a second hobby—creating family photo albums, custom t-shirts, hats, and more.
